SUPER TUNE

SUPER TUNING BENEFITS

Super Tuning is a process that polishes the friction points the reels spool and centrifugal brake system. Super Tuning doesn't improve a magnetic brake system!

The spool shaft has three main friction points, both ends, one side contacts a fiber bushing while the other usually contacts a brass disc that is underneath your spool tension knob. (Not all reels have this brass washer). The third friction point is where the pinion gear rides on the spool's shaft.

The Super Tuning process takes these three friction points and polishes them to a mirror like finish, removing all corrosion, divots, and scratches that rob your reel of performance.

Super Tuning alone will not allow your reel to spin longer! Most fisherman will grab a reel and the first thing they want to see is how long the spool will spin, although a good test of the bearing system of a reel, this is not the goal of Super Tuning. Although in some cases (depending on how damaged these friction points are) Super Tuning will improve the spin time of a spool, the main goal of Super Tuning is to allow your reel so spin smoother!

Another area addressed with the Super Tuning process is the centrifugal brake system. If the brake housing is rough or corroded, as your brake collars extend and rotate around the brake housing they will bounce up and down when they hit the rough spots, scratches, or corrosion. This will cause your reel to speed up and slow down during a cast, which in turn causes your line to loosen on the spool. As your brake collars hit these rough spots they will rob you of casting distance as well.

With all the friction points of a reel polished the spool can be controlled much easier. If your spool ends are rough or your pinion gear is scratched or dirty, your spool will spin inconsistently. While your spool is playing out line during a cast if there are inconsistencies in the rotation of the spool it will have minor speed changes that will cause your line to become loose then tighten back up and then loose again. Obviously this speed fluctuation is happening so fast that you don't realize it. Over time as this starts to get worse you as the angler will notice that the line on your spool is not as tight as it should be, you will get back lashes more frequently, and casting distance diminishes. If you like to pitch a bait rather than cast and you have a reel spool with damaged friction points, you will notice that you need to make one of those so called "Clearing Casts" more frequently.

By Super Tuning a reel you can expect some casting distance improvements; however most of all, you will see an improvement in casting performance with fewer over runs. With out these minor spool fluctuations your line will maintain a tighter wrap on the spool in turn giving you a more controlled cast or pitch.
